Motivation: Aligning your mind & journaling your goals.

Updated: Jan 25, 2019

Motivation.... the one thing in this world that is so hard to find, yet so easy to lose ! If you are struggling to dig into the motivation and want to know how to stay motivated then get ready for the read that may change your life !

Every day I receive messages, phone calls & even emails from people who are wanting to better themselves but just don't have the motivation to do it. Lack of motivation will come around and bite you in the butt before you know it. No matter who you are, where you are from you will always come across it and in some cases it will stump you. Leave you wondering "why am I feeling so lost ?" "Why do I just have no motivation to move or even think about anything ?" And the answer to that question is a lack of consistency and goal setting.

SMART goal setting

For me, in order to achieve goals you first need to set them, make a plan on how you're going to achieve them and be consistent with it. No matter the goal whether it be, physical, mental, work related or personal this applies to EVERYTHING ! Plain and simple. In order to stay consistent, you need to tie your motivation to a goal that you are passionate about and has a purpose. In training, make a specific goal that you really are going to push for; not just a general goal of "I want to get fit & tone up a little" (How generic, am I right ?) I don't want to see anyone with general flimsy goals, it will get you no where. You need to be specific and be passionate about what you are setting for yourself. Tie in the feeling and thoughts that would surface when you achieve that goal. By being specific with all aspects of your goal you are going to have a clearer vision for the future you are working for.

Now that we have covered how to set your goals you need to put them down on paper. Buy a diary and write your goals, how you're going to achieve them and the outcomes that will come from achieving it. For example:

" I am going to lose 20kg by the end of 2019. I will go to the gym three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays for 30-45 minutes each. I will meal prep on Sundays to keep my eating on track and stay organised. By setting and achieving these goals I am going to feel confident and beautiful, I can go out more and not feel so self-conscious. I AM WOMAN, HERE ME ROAR!"

If I say so myself that is a very specific goal that you can be passionate about. Write down weekly updates of your progress, physical and mental. This will help you to keep track of what is happening currently and by putting your progress and thoughts down it can clear your mind and keep your mentality on track. By journalling everything you are able to look back and see what you were achieving beforehand and compare to where you are now. If you find that a certain week you are lacking some motivation then go through your diary see what you are lacking this week that you had in another week and work on bringing that motivation back.

Now that you have all of the tools, USE THEM. Don't sit back and wait because you will never get around to doing it. The sooner you plan the sooner you achieve and start to feel those physical and mental changes within yourself. Believe in yourself you will achieve in anything !
