If you are a mum you know all about pelvic floor muscles and the importance of strengthening them. But so many women out there have no idea of the importance or even what these muscles are for ! So if you are one of those ladies looking for more information and exercises to strengthen your pelvic floor then this is the post for you!
So, what are the pelvic floor muscles and what is the purpose of them ? Simply put, they are a group of muscles and ligaments that are there to help support and control your bladder, bowels and uterus. Having a strong pelvic floor helps prevent problems such as incontinence (lack of voluntary control over urination and defecation) and reducing the risk of prolapse ('sagging' of internal organs). Without these muscles we would be having one big mess ! That's why exercising them regularly is a must. So I'm going to show you all a few exercises you can do ANYWHERE to help strengthen your pelvic floor.
Thanks to the amazing Jean Hailes Women's health they have provided an awesome, easy to follow pelvic floor exercise routine. They recommend starting exercises either sitting or lying down on your back with your knees bent and feet flat. Aim to do these exercises once daily.

By consistently keeping up your pelvic floor exercise routine you will start to notice your muscles becoming stronger and easier to control. As your muscles become stronger, try doing the exercises while standing and then walking. Make this a regular routine for you in order to feel the difference. If you find you are still having trouble with your pelvic floor then it is best to scoot on over to your GP for a discussion.
